My husband, and my heart, is currently in the desert. I just got back.

Yes, Virginia, there really is a fried Twinkie. No, Virginia, I've never had one.

Just in case you needed something more to make your arteries hate you...

The radio mentioned the new treat at this years State Fair: the deep-fried pecan praline. My blood sugar went up 50 points just thinking about it.

You are coming to the Fair?

Chris- I might try and make it during the week, but I haven't a clue if I'll be able to. :-( School's keeping me reaaaaaallly busy.

Oh, a couple of other new treats are:
Donkey tail - a beef frank and an equally sized piece of cheese battered and deep fried
Fried Coke - coca-cola flavored batter with uncarbonated coke syrup poured on top.

My wife will be going to the state fair, I will not. I hate crowds and they won't allow me to carry enough firepower to set foot in that section of Dallas.

The Fair is eminently doable during most weekdays. The crowds are thinner mid-week, especially in the mornings when all the good shows are. I don't mind taking a day off so as to catch the Fair. I always park on-site where the cops patrol the place heavily. Yes, its in a bad part of town, but that is part of the low-rent advanture.

I spend most of the time eating and shopping...and watching the Shop Smith people make cool stuff. Last year, I ordered custom-made boots from Ecuador, and these arrived last month. They fit and look great, and were CHEAP. This year I will check out the podiatrists and chiropracters (age taking its toll).

Since it runs for 3 weeks, my plans are flexible. If you want to wander around the Fair with an old crippled guy, drop me a line!
