"The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that
English is about as pure as a cribhouse whore. We don't just borrow
words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways
to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary."
-James D. Nicoll

I love this quote. It's so true and so typical of English, and Americans in general.

A few years ago my wife and I visited China and went into various classrooms in a chinese school. (We were teachers). The teachers and kids all proudly showed off their english - which was required- for us.
Just think, In a few years, most of the world's english will be spoken with a chinese accent.

You know, that doesn't scare me as much as it used to. Chinese spoken with an Arkansas accent? Now that's scary.
